Dayton: Press of United Brethren Publishing House, 1912. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Quarter brown morocco with gilt spine lettering and faux vellum paper over boards. xii, (8pp), viii, 383pp. Top edge gilt. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, illustrations, marbled endpapers. Very good. Lightest of binding wear only; tight and internally fine. Slightly enlarged from the 1907 first edition, this daily calendar includes a lengthy Lincoln quotation, a brief Biblical line and a poetry excerpt starting with January 1st and concluding with December 31st. This intriguing association copy hails from the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81), and before him of his father Adlai II (1900-65), Illinois governor and two-time presidential candidate, and likely before him of great-grandfather Adlai E. Stevenson I (1835-1914), Congressman from Illinois (1879-81) and U.S. vice president under Cleveland (1893-97). His name is included among the "Incorporators" and "Life Members" lists preceding the title page. As with all copies, front pastedown bears the large bookplate of The Lincoln Centennial Association. Quite a challenging title to find in such nice condition. MONAGHAN 1532 note.
