About This Item
This First Edition copy of Life Magazine, Vol. 45, No. 7 was published on August 18, 1958 and had a cover picture of Anne Frank on a page from her diary and, in large letters, the text "What Happened After End of Anne Frank's Diary – Exclusive Story Tells of her Tragedy".
Annelies Marie Frank (12 June 1929 – c. February or March 1945) was a German-born Jewish girl who kept a diary in which she documented life in hiding under Nazi persecution during the German occupation of the Netherlands. She is a celebrated diarist who described everyday life from her family's hiding place in an Amsterdam attic. One of the most-discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust, she gained fame posthumously with the 1947 publication of The Diary of a Young Girl in which she documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944 — it is one of the world's best-known books and has been the basis for several plays and films. [Wikipedia]
The article in this issue of Life was written by Ernst Schnabel and titled "A Tragedy Revealed: Heroine's Last Days – Survivors tell how Anne Frank, whose diary endeared her to the world, was indominable to the end". The magazine, which measures approximately 10.5 inches wide by 14 inches tall, contains 96 pages of text, illustrations, and advertisements. The magazine is staple-bound with paper covers.
