Large 8vo, full red crushed morocco (front hinge expertly, and almost imperceptibly, repaired), upper and lower covers gilt ruled, elaborately gilt decorated spine with raised bands, inner gilt dentelles, t.e.g., by Riviere & Son, pp. vi-[2], 402 + aquatint title & 35 hand colored plates. London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1842.
First Edition, first issue, with plates at pp. 13, 14, 15, and 55, mounted. Fine copy, bound with terminal ads. Apperley's only work of fiction, the plates of which are considered to be some of Henry Alken's finest work. "Considered by many to be the premier coloured plate sporting book in the 19th century."-Tooley 65. A handsome copy, beautifully bound, and beautifully colored. In cloth slipcase. Schwerdt I, pp. 36-37. Prideaux, p. 326.
