The primary account of Howard's journey to the Ainu, striking the Sakhalin forest, his reception at the Ainu village. Description of his adopted village & home in Karaptor or Sakhalin. . His life in the Chief's hut, fishing excursion, call upon the ladies who were very hospitable ! Deer shooting with bow and arrows. How he became head wizard of the Ainu village. . The Ainu dogs, and the winter life of the people, bear hunt, instalation as honorary village Chief. Instruction in poison making & other mysteries, a death & burial, unaltered condition of the Ainu, tattoo marks of identity between Sakhalin and Yezo Ainu. .
