Half-title included. B/W frontispiece entitled "The Death of Vanderburgh." 9 further B/W illustrations throughout. Preface (1940) and biography of Warren A. Ferris by Paul C. Phillips. Edited, with an introduction and notes by Leroy R. Hafen. Rear pocket carrying map of the Northwest Fur Country illustrated by Ferris in 1836. Original receipt with list of other Old West Publishing Co. Titles in front of book. Colour of cloth boards well preserved, with no visible blemishes or scratches. Internally unmarked. Tight, clean copy. A near perfect copy of this 1983 edition. Warren A. Ferris, a fur trapper and trader, worked as such in the Rocky Mountains from 1830-1835. The diary Ferris diligently updated with news of his exploration of Yellowstone National Park formed this 1940 novel. 1983
