London: Cassell, Petter & Galpin, nd (1880s). Hardcover. Illustrated serial edition. Six volumes in decorative red cloth stamped in gilt and black on thespines and upper boards. 4to. AEG. Vol 1 has 3 colour and 3 monochrome tissue-guarded frontispieces and pp vii + 248 illustrated throughout with 106 engravings. The other five volumes are comparable. All are slightly dull to spines else clean and bright.The rear bevelled edge to vol 1 has suffered some slight damage to the bottom 50mm and the inner hinges to vol 6 show signs of cracking. Otherwise, a Very Good set indeed.
