Octavo. 6.25 x 9 inches. 229 [i] pp. Frontispiece portrait of Robert Anderson. Anderson was born into slavery in Liberty County, Georgia. When his master died, he bought himself out of slavery from his mistress for $1000 and his wife for $500 with the meager earnings he had accumulated. All early editions of his book are very scarce.
