Raleigh, N.C.: Edwards & Broughton Printing Company, 1903. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 12mo. xvi, 443 pages. Hardcover bound in original green cloth with titles in gilt. An ex-library copy with full markings. Modern removable clear mylar jacket. Shelf label on the spine and ink stamps (included "Discarded" stamps) on the endpapers. Inner hinges just starting. Text is toned but generally clean. SIGNED on the second front flyleaf, "Compliments of the Author." (The book does not contain the author's actual signature but is signed as "the Author."). Nathaniel Macon (1757-1837) was born near Warrenton, North Carolina and represented North Carolina in both houses of Congress. He served briefly in the American Revolution. He was a defender of slavery and voted against the Missouri Compromise in 1820. In 1835 he served as President of the convention to revise the Constitution of North Carolina. After his political career, he served as a trustee of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
