Full calf, gilt dentelles, title label to spine, marbled page edges quite faded, marbled endpapers. Backstrip badly worn, with loss of leather, and joints tender and loss of leather. Text block clean and bright. Covers the time from the invasion of France by the Allied forces in 1814 after the retreat from Moscow through to the Battle of Waterloo. Armorial bookplate of Stephen Holland (Cor Unum Via Una), who amassed one of the great nineteenth century art collections, including 10 Turners, three Gainsboroughs, and numerous others.
