Both volumes uniformly bound in contemporary tree calf, spines richly gilt, twin labels of red and brown morocco, sides with a gilt castellated border, gilt turn ins,all edges gilt, marbled endpages, armorial bookplates of Christopher Turnor (1809-1886), Stoke Rochford Library, a member of the House of Commons from 1841-1847. Near Fine, gilt at spine of vol. I rubbed, toning to end pages. Finely bound and with good provenance, a quite uncommon biography and collection of the letters of the twelfth-century Archbishop of Canterbury who was murdered in 1162.. First Edition. Full Calf. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
