London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1876. First edition. Leather bound. Very good. 2 vols.: xi, 475; viii, 480 p. 22 cm. Frontispiece portrait in vol. 1. Rebacked tree calf. Attractive marbled endpapers and text block edges. Inscription from Charles Trevelyan on a front endpaper in vol. 1. News clipping inserted between pp. 472 and 473 in vol. 2 has discoloured pages.

Includes a letter from Charles Trevelyan to Herbert Samuel dated 1947. Sir Charles Trevelyan, resident of Wallington House, Northumberland, was Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland and a great-nephew of Lord Macaulay.
