A leather bound biography of Thomas Babington Macaulay, written by his nephew. Macaulay was a British historian and Whig politician who served as the Secretary at War between 1839 and 1841. Alongside his political work, Macaulay is remembered today for his seminal work of Whig history, The History of England, in which he questioned the superiority of Western European culture and the inevitability of its socio-political progress. Prior owner's in inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. The inscription reads, 'To my husband, 4th June 1883'. In a full blue calf binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, spine, and extremities, a little more so to the front joint of volume II. Both volumes are a little rubbed to the head of the spine, particularly volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light patchy foxing to the front and rear of the volume, pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good
