A study of the life and work of Thomas Babington Macaulay, British historian and well known Whig politician. His famous prose work The History of England provides an influential example if Whig history. A new edition, complete in two volumes. First published in 1876.Written by his nephew George Otto Trevelyan, British statesman and author. Prize binding with inscription to front blank leaf vol I "Walter Buckland Taylor Plates Prize for English Verse 1879." Rebound in uniform full calf bindings with five raised bands, titles in gilt to spine labels, gilt blind stamp to front boards. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, only minor light rubbing to back strip. Front board and blind stamp vol. I marked. Inscribed by previous owner to recto front blank leaf vol I, dated 1879. Minor loss to upper right outer corner front blank leaf, not affecting any of the text. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
