This is an exceptionally maintained Book published in 1904. It is a Biography of William II, the Emperor of Germany. The Author, Marguerite Cunliffe-Owens, remained anonymous and did not include her name anywhere on this Book as she had done with several of her other Books. This Book has 282 pages and 16 illustrations. This Book also includes a signature by Emperor William dated 1903 under his photo in the frontispiece.

In this pamphlet, Judge Leavitt states his reasons (based on historical fact and the Constitution) for his ruling that denied a writ of habeas corpus for the defendant C. L. Vallandigham; leader of the "Peace Democrats," and Supreme Commander of the "Sons of Liberty."

The accused was charged with "mischievous disloyalty" in his opinions and statements; and subsequently arrested at the orders of General Burnside. Lincoln became involved when, in May of 1863, he wrote to Stanton stating that suspension of habeas corpus, as Stanton wanted, would not be necessary in this case.

Very scarce early work containing much ephemera relating to this great man Ebenezer Elliott (17 March 1781 – 1 December 1849) was an English poet, known as the Corn Law rhymer for his leading the fight to repeal the Corn Laws, which were causing hardship and starvation among the poor. Though a factory owner himself, his single-minded devotion to the welfare of the labouring classes won him a sympathetic reputation long after his poetry ceased to be read. Elliott's poems often seem naive or archaic to the modern reader who gets the impression that Elliott is struggling to write verse - the more he wrestles, the worse he becomes! This Book is a western adventure novel by noted author, Zane Grey. Grey was one of the most prolific western and outdoor life authors in U.S. history. This Book is well preserved with some minor damage, but is easily readable. It contains 336 pages and four illustrations.

xxviii, 470 pp. Large 8°, [9¼ x 6½], Quarter leather with gilt stamped spine and alligator skin–like paper-covered boards. Nice indigo speckling on textblock edges. Light wear with some sunning at top of boards and a bit of wear on corners. Interior clean, little if any foxing, and a few marginalia in pencil. Plates are present ("Avec 5 planches dont 4 en Chromo et 80 Figures dans le Texte."), but plates don't appear to be bound in the correct places. Also, margins on plates appear tight. Still very good with a nice look. The author claims that the league of enemies of grape production herein is not exhaustive, "la liste des parasites, animaux ou végétaux, qui s'attaquent ànos récoltes augmente d'année en année, but the orders of Hémiptères, Lépidoptères, Névroptères, Orthoptères, Coléoptères, Hyménoptères inclusive of 90 species are described here. It is a wonder that there are any grapes left for wine.
