Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1916-1919. Hardcover. Octavo, Four volumes. In Fair plus condition. Spines are green with gold print. Boards in green cloth with gold print. Wear to spine caps and corners, cocked spines, small stain on front of second volume, light shelf wear. Text blocks have tinted top edge. Penciled name on front flyleaf of first volume, tanning to endpapers, light spotting to edges, foxing to frontispieces and title pages. Illustrated: color frontispiece (portrait) in each volume, b&w plates.
CONTENTS: Vol. 1. Frontiersman, Soldier, Lawmaker, 1755-1788 (xxvi, 506 pages) - Vol. 2. Politician, Diplomat, Statesman, 1789-1801 (some uncut pages; xviii, 594 pages) - Vol. 3. Conflict and Construction, 1800-1815 (some uncut pages; xxii, 644 pages) - Vol. 4. The Building of the Nation, 1815-1835 (cracked front hinge; xviii, 668 pages).
