London: privately printed at the Curwen Press, 1953. First edition (hardback), limited to 400 copies (this copy number 355). 4to, xxi, 428pp. Frontispiece, 32 collotype plates, 50 text figures. Original grey cloth, red title label to the spine with gilt titling, top edge gilt. The book is in very good condition. The original dustwrapper is present, but is only in fair condition (rubbed, creased and repaired, extremities frayed).
