About This Item
New York: De Witt & Davenport, Publishers [circa 1854]. (Hardcover) 300pp. Good to very good, no dust jacket. Decorated blue cloth with gilt cover illustration and gilt lettering and decorations to the spine. Ex-library, the spine is cocked and slightly fraying at the top and bottom, and the interior pages are a bit soiled, with some black spots inside near the spine at page 21. "In our work of 'Roughing it in the Bush,' I endeavoured to draw a picture of Canadian life, as I found it twenty years ago, in the Backwoods. My motive in giving such a melancholy narrative to the public, was prompted by the hope of deterring well-educated people, about to settle in this colony, from entering upon a life for which they were totally unfitted by their previous pursuits and habits". Time Period 19th Century. Locale: Ontario--Canada. (Canada, Daily Life, History--Canada, Settlement--Canada).
