Cassell and Company Ltd., 1111. Hardcover. Acceptable. No edition remarks. 756 pages. Half bound black leather with brown cloth covered boards. Contains black and white in text illustrations and coloured plates throughout. Frontispiece of author and decorated half-title page. Severe cracking to front hinge, causing board to be loose, however the binding throughout remains firm. Slight split to top of rear hinge. Prominent water staining to edges of text block. Text is unaffected. Pages are tanned with mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to pastedowns and end papers. Tissue guard with small hole with remnant to half title page. Blue paper stuck to front hinge. Boards have noticeable edge wear with visible corner bumping. Joints heavily cracked causing boards to be loose. Burn marks across the spine. Leather peeling heavily overall with scratches and marks. Water staining to boards causing cloth to be discoloured. More prominent to front board. Slight forward lean.
