About This Item

Philadelpha: Henry T. Coates & Co.. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 7 3/4" tall dark green hardcover with gold pritn on boards. Bumping with light fraying along edges and corners of boards. Rubbing and minor wear to boards. A couple of small areas on the front boards what have a brown substance, almost like a wax. This may be removable with a sharp object. I'll let the new owner of the book do that. Small area on the back board that appears like something was on it and left a white stain. The boards are in Good to Fair condition. A few words in light pencil on the ffep. Pages are mostly tight but book will lay open. Pages are clean/unmarked. 630 pages. One page has been torn on the outside edge and has been taped. The last end page is partially detached and there is a bit of separation along the seam of the end page and back board. The interior pages are really in Fine condition. There is no print year stated for this book, so I really don't have any idea of its publication date. I have seen other books listed but other author's, which have similar boards. It may be that this book is part of an early "Book Club" group. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall

Synopsis

Robinson Crusoe was first published in April 1719, in London. In the beginning, the story was published as an autobiography, but it was later established that the author was Daniel Defoe. The novel became an instant classic, with four editions printed in the first year of publication. Often called the first English novel, it follows the story of Robinson Crusoe, a man marooned on an island. Crusoe’s adventure-packed story of survival started the genre of realistic fiction and inspired a slew of other survival novels. Over the course of its publication history, Robinson Crusoe has become the second-most translated book in the world.
