London: Henry Colburn, 1840. [Fine Binding]. Three-quarter polished blue calf over marbled boards, raised bands, morocco title labels, gilt titles and decoration, a.e.g., (8.75 x 6 inches). First one volume edition, published same year as three-decker. 387 pages, illustrated with 24 engraved plates, including frontis by Hervieu and Onwhyn. Tipped-in is a one page A.L.S. (autograph letter signed) by Frances Trollope. Mrs. Trollope's 'damning expose of child labour.' Provenance; armorial bookplate of Constance and Henry Bowles. Showing some light general wear, rubbing along hinges, internally clean and tight. A finely bound copy with a strong shelf presence. Signed. First Edition. Leather. Very Good. Illus. by Hervieu and Onwhyn. Octavo.
