Small 8vo. xviii, 399pp. Original green calf, lettered in gold at the spine with five ruled and decorated compartments. Marbled edges and endpapers and a silk place-marker ribbon. With a frontispiece engraving, four engraved plates and one multi-panel folding map. Pasted errata slip. A little rubbing wear to the extremities, and some marking and light scoring to the boards. Former owner surname inkstamped to the head of a blank preliminary leaf. Very good. An account of the life and career of Admiral Sir Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth, GCB (19 April 1757-23 January 1833), a British naval officer who fought during the American War of Independence, the French Revolutionary Wars, and the Napoleonic Wars. Originally published in 1835, this revised second edition is somewhat more uncommon than the original..
