About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1955. Silver title and motif on red boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear just a thin line of fading to spine head and tail. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked. Dustjacket has some wear to top edges and is not price clipped. 292 pages. The author, who lived in France from September 1944 onwards, first as a war correspondent and then as correspondent of British newspapers, has written the first well rounded study of the foundation of the Fourth Republic to appear in Britain. She has documented her personal experiences and subjective opinions with the thorough research of her previous academic years, resulting in a well sustained argument in favour of the immense effort made by the French to recover from the effects of defeat and German occupation. **** NOT EX LIB **** 12. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
