About This Item

1779 ATLANTIS Lost City Origins Bailly Voltaire Astronomy Aryan Civilizations

Jean Sylvain Bailly was a notable 18th-century French astronomer who was beheaded at the height of the French Revolution. According to Hogg, no other astronomer "has played a more important role in the shaping of his country's political destiny." He also was a steadfast on the existence of the lost city of Atlantis – a topic he wrote thoroughly about to French literary hero, Voltaire. In a series of letters to Voltaire, he describes lost Aryan civilizations, origins of scientific methods, and various people groups in Asia. Voltaire contested many of Bailly's theories.

This collection of letters features Bailly's studies on the migration of people from northern Europe to Asia and other origins of science and astronomy. This 1779 edition includes a large folding map!
