Five volumes with matching full contemporary calf combining 2 vols of Letters and 3 vols. of "Miscellaneous Works of the Late Philip Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield, Consisting of Letters to his Friends, never before printed, and various other articles. To which are Prefixed Memoirs of his Life, Tending to Illustrate the Civil, Literary, and political, History of his Time. By M Maty.". Vol 3 thereof entitled " . . . Consisting of Political Tracts, and Poems; Completing The Edition of His Lordship's Work Began by Dr. Maty, Collected, Arranged and Revised by B. W. of the Inner-Temple." vii + 567 + 606 + errata page (referring to vol 1) + 293 + 587 + 304, with indices, plates, etc. Complete. Bookplates in each volume on contemporary marbled FFP of Beaufort (Duke of Beaufort?). Some scattered foxing. Contemporary calf somewhat dry on boards. Spine, with labels and decoration (6 panels each) perhaps a little faded but no loss. Overall a very good copy, if not better, and very rare as a five volume set.
