First authorized edition of the letters, quarto issue, with first letter in vol. I incorrectly dated 1724. Engraved vignette portrait on each title-page, engraved head- and tailpieces. Title-pages in red and black. Lacking half-titles. 2 vols. 4to. The first authorized edition of Pope's letters, though "the letters are a reprint of the Letters of 1735, with additions" (Griffiths). The concluding section of the book was printed but not published until 1741 when it was included in vol. II, The Works. Griffith 454 & 531; Rothschild 1633
