Orig. cloth with printed paper labels. Very good set. Howes H-335. BAL 7803, 33. Anonymously edited by Henry Adams. An important compilation of letters and diary extracts of Lincoln's personal assistant during the Civil War which, as the imprint states, was "printed, but not published." BAL cites a letter from the printer, who recalled that about 200 sets were printed and shipped to Hay's widow for private distribution. An important source for life with Lincoln during the Civil War.
