First series (3 vols, 1833) is Second edition, Edited by Lord Dover. Concluding series (4 vols, 1843-44) appears to be first edition, no edition stated. Uniformly bound and numbered Vol I-VII on spines. Bindings marked "Birdsall & Son, Northampton" on verso of front free endpapers, along bottom edge. Half-bound in tan calf with ruled borders over red, blue, and white marbled paper-covered boards. Matching marbled endpapers; all page edges marbled as well. Five raised spine bands; four tan panels with small gilt floral tool; a red panel with gilt title; a green panel with gilt volume number and dates of letters. Tissued frontispiece in each; additional plates in vols 4 and 5. Front board of vol 6 is completely detached but present; all others have tight bindings with no hinge cracking. Corners worn, with boards exposed. Moderate rubbing to spines. Spine ends bumped. Name in ink at top of title page in vols. 1-3. Vol 1 has a one-inch diagonal crack in top spine panel; Vol. 1 also includes bound-in binder's slip with pencil writing, which has transferred to previous blank page. Binder's slip is located before preface; indicates marble pattern used is called "terra cotta curl". Covers lightly soiled; a few rubbed areas on marbling. Light foxing to the endpapers and adjacent few leaves; interiors otherwise in excellent condition, with only a few light handling stains in margins. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box. Full title, Vols. 1-3: "Letters of Horace Walpole, Earl of Orford, to Sir Horace Mann, British envoy at the court of Tuscany. Now first published from the originals in the possession of the Earl of Waldegrave. Edited by Lord Dover.
