About This Item
New York: Columbia University Press, 1986. First edition. 6.25 x 9.25 inches, 901 pp. (in two volumes). Cloth over boards in printed dust-jackets. With list of illustrations, preface, acknowledgments, introduction, text of the letters, two appendices ("The First Meeting of Gertrude Stein and Carl Van Vechten" and "An Unpublished Portrait of Carl Van Vechten by Gertrude Stein"), list of principal works by both authors, selected bibliography, and index.
Tiny closed tear to dustjacet of volume 1, and mild bump to top outer corner of rear board of volume 2; with a minor binding flaw in volume 2, such that the front free endpaper is glued down to the inside cover, and the volume opens directly to the half-title page. Still an essentially as-new set, otherwise fine and unopened.
