About This Item
London: Seeley, Service & Co., 1930. The magnum opus of one of the great calligraphers. Loaded with samples (about 400) of Hewitt's work, including two alphabets seen for the first time. An encyclopaedia of styles, techniques, tools, and materials to practice the art. The book is considered pivotal for the reintroduction of gilding in calligraphy. A number of tipped in historical examples as well. Fine; ivory buckram covered boards with some faint discoloration along the edges of the spine. Some offsetting on the free endpapers. Interior of the book is fine. An attractive book. Top edges gilt, with ribbon bookmark. All other edges untrimmed. 336 pages. Number 267 of 380 copies, signed by the author.
