About This Item
James Currie. A Letter Commercial and Political, Addressed to The Rt. Honble. William Pitt: in which The Real Interests of Britain, in the Present Crisis, are Considered, and Some Observations Are Offered, on the General State of Europe. / The Second Edition, Corrected and Enlarged. By Jasper Wilson, Esq. 8vo. Modern paper wrappers. London: Printed for G.G. and J. Robinson. 1793. Second Edition, enlarged and revised, with a new postscript and several additions. Kress Bc2474; Goldsmith 15727.
James Currie was a radical and a strong anti-slavery advocate.
Composed primarily to argue against a new war with France following the execution of Louis XVI, the pamphlet also defines Britain's place in Europe in the 1790s, and discusses the economic hardships of the time: an "inquiry into the causes of the general calamities which affect the commercial and manufacturing interests, and the connexion which these may have with the measures of government . . ."
Book-block weakened, with the final 2 gatherings detached; small tear at the gutter margin of the second leaf where it attaches to the title leaf, not affecting text; title page and final page are mildly toned; o/w clean and bright, with clear print and ample margins.
