Belfrage was a Brtish film critic, journalist, political activist and one of the founders in 1948 of the radical US weekly launched in support of the Progressive Party presidential candidate Henry A Wallace. He was also referenced as a Soviet agent although later found to be a double agent, working for UK intelligence. The book, Let my People Go, is an account of elements of the struggle in the US south for racial and working class freedom and civil rights and perhaps particularly of the part played positively by some Christian pastors.
