About This Item
New York, NY Dover Publications, 1976. Paperback Reprint Edition (1976). Very Good+ to Near Fine in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: just a hint of wear to the extremities; the very mildest rubbing to the wrapper covers; very faint sun-blanching to the backstrip (the white titles thereon remain unaffected: bold and clearly legible; the former bookseller's rubber-stamped logo at the front free endpaper; the price has been neatly blocked out at the upper corner of the front panel; the binding is square and secure; the text clean. Free of creases to the covers. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. A handsome nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing the mildest wear and unobtrusive cosmetic flaws. Remains close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.5 x 5.4 x 0.9 inches). xi, 369 pages. Sewn Binding; these old Dover volumes were made to last. Language: English. Weight: 16 ounces. Reprint Edition (1976). Trade Paperback. This beautifully written and well organized book is not a primer. It doesn't discuss openings, make suggestions to improve your game or suggest a better defense for Ruy Lopez. It simply demonstrates the beauty and aesthetic value of the game. It points out the pleasure--as the title suggests--and complexities of each piece in a game of chess. I find myself re-reading it and deriving additional pleasure each time. I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves the game or think they might.
