The first edition of this collection of lectures on sculpture by the Neoclassic sculpture John Flaxman with illustrations. First edition of Lectures on Sculpture by John Flaxman in half calf binding and cloth boards. A densely illustrated collection of lectures and studies by the eighteenth and nineteenth British sculptor. Flaxman was a prolific and well renowned artist and leading figure of European Neoclassicism. This work covers topics such as 'Grecian Sculpture', 'Composition', and 'Drapery'. Listed with fifty two plates and a frontispiece, and includes an erratum disclaiming that plate 18 was never engraved. This copy is missing two plates, plates 51 and 52. Collated. There are tidemarks to plate 34. An ex-library book with the library stamp to the first free endpaper.  In half calf binding and cloth boards. Externally, sound. There is some rubbing to the leather resulting in some slight loss to the extremities. The spine is slightly faded. There are some light marks to the front board. An ex-library book with the library stamp to the first free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot. There are tidemarks to plate thirty four.  Good
