Philadelphia: Blanchard and Lea, 1852. Cloth. Fair/No Jacket. Black cloth with ornamentation in blind. xxiii, 424, 24 (advertisements); xvi, 569. Volumes 1 and 3 ONLY. A study of ancient history presented as a series of lectures, containing sections on the Babylonians, Nineveh, the Cimmerians, the Phoenicians, the Egyptians and Ethiopians, Scythians and many sections on ancient Greece and the Greeks. FAIR condition. Heavy chipping and loss of cloth along the spines, with large portions missing from the head and tail of each. Boards chewed (at the center fore edge of volume 1 and upper right front corner of volume 3). Cloth very scuffed and worn along the extremities. Minor soiling, fading, staining and discoloration to the covers of both. Text blocks solid, with heavy scattered foxing and minor to moderate soiling throughout both.
