Internally clean and crisp. From the library of celebrated poet and playwright Christopher Fry (1907-2005), with his ownership inscription to recto of FFEP. The first edition of a posthumously published collection of poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861). The book, edited by her husband, includes works on Italian politics, accomplished dramatic monologues, and the powerful lyric 'A Musical Instrument' - exploring the beauty cruelly extracted by the gods of poetry from the artist's pain. . First edition. 8vo.
