About This Item

After the Opium Wars, in China, in 1842 westerners started settling in Shanghai. There were 2 areas: Frenchtown and the International Settlement. Wealthy merchants and bureaucrats built up these areas in the image where they came from. There are architectural styles of every kind. There are about 65 buildings photographed, some of them inside and out. A lot of these buildings were demolished, or renovated beyond recognition even by the time the book went to press. The book is in near fine condition. The corners are square, and the pages are clean and unmarked. The cover shows only the slightest shelf and edge wear. Tess Johnston has dated and signed on the title page (no inscription).

About mark mcdonald

Book collector for over 30 years. I'm retired and ready to sell. I buy almost exclusively from estate sales and since I've lived in Dallas my whole life, I know the people and where to go. I am a low volume collector and seller and deal in higher quality books. I have a lot of signed and inscribed books. These signatures have not been officially authenticated, but I am confident in their authenticity so I will guarantee them in perpetuity if it can be reasonably demonstrated that the signature is incorrect. .
