About This Item

An account of one of the most infamous legal cases in Canada in the twentieth century. Sir Arthur Currie had led the liberation of Mons from the Germans in 1918, the last year of World War I. This effort cost many lives in the Canadian Corps which Currie led, and as a result for years after the end of the war Currie continued to be blamed for these deaths.

Things came to a head when W.T.R. Preston wrote an editorial in the Port Hope Evening Guide in 1927 criticising Currie, and causing him to bring a charge of libel.

The Final Day, the Final Hour is an account of the events prior to this infamous trial, as well as of the trial itself, and includes some of the major figures in Canadian military, legal, and political history of the twentieth century.

Written by Robert J. Sharpe of Picton, ON, the author is able to provide unique insight into the nature of the legalities in question given his role as the Executive Legal Officer of the Supreme Court of Canada, and his years of teaching in the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto on subjects including constitutional and civil law.

This book is in As New condition with a dust jacket also in As New Condition.
