Illustrated with coloured lithographic plates (including frontispiece), drawngs in text and folding map. Original decorative orange cloth with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Bevelled edges and black coated endpapers. Covers are slightly faded. Three small diiscreet blind stamps in each volume. Both volumes are tight and clean. very good Burton's second expedition to Midian mapped and explored over 600 miles of territory and discovered numerous ancient sites. The hope of a gold discovery that did not occur added to Burton's problems as his potential backer, the Egyptian Khedive, fell through. 1879
