About This Item
New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1856. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 7" by 5". Not Stated. A bright illustrated copy of Yonge's adventure novel The Lances of Lynwood. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Ink inscription to the front free endpaper. 3 plates including the frontispiece. Collated complete. Charlotte Mary Yonge (18231901) was an English novelist, who wrote in the service of the church. Her abundant books helped to spread the influence of the Oxford Movement and show her keen interest in matters of public health and sanitation. She was also editor, for nearly forty years, of a magazine for young ladies, the Monthly Packet. 10 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with very light bumping to the extremities and joints. Colour and gilt remain bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
