About This Item
New York: Knopf, 1974. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Tryon's third novel, "Lady," like his bestselling, "The Other," combines elements of mystery and gothic horror in a story about the relationship between an eight-year-old boy and the charming widow with-a-dark-secret who is the leading citizen of a small, 1930s New England town. Book club edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches, 278 pages in black paper-covered boards and gold lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front panel features drawing of woman wearing a broad-brimmed hat that hides her eyes with author's name in black above and title below. Back panel has full-panel, b&w photo of Tryon with cigarette in left hand. Boards and text are clean, complete and unmarked, without noticeable flaws or damage beyond lightly soiled text edges and slight spine lean. Dj shows minor wear along edges and at spine ends but no significant tears, creases or chipping. A very decent reading copy of this work from an individual who abruptly left a successful career as a film and tv leading man in the 1950s and '60s to become successful as a bestselling author.
