London: Scatcherd and Letterman. Good with No dust jacket as issued. 1824. First Edition. Hardcover. Rare original 1824 printing (not a POD or reprint) for Scatcherd and Letterman; Cuthill; J. Nunn; Longman, Hurst, and Rees; and Orm and Brown. Printed by S. and R. Bentley, Dorset Street, Salisbury Square, London. Boards detached and title page is loose along with engraving of Mahomet opposite title page, but both are laid in. Tanning to pages with some foxing. Pages are uneven cut which is common for a book of this age and some pages have closed end tears. The preface is not kind to Islam stating "The Publishers, in disclosing the doctrines of Allah, sinceerely invite the Christian believer to compare them, with the lenient and spiritual character of the Gospel, and in the contrast, the clearness of evangelical light will reveal the dark incongruities of Islamism." The text, however, seems to be a direct printing of the Koran as given by Mahomet. Book includes a Memoir of Mahomet after the Preface and before the Chapters of the Koran containing chapters beginning with Introduction (I) and ending with The Cave (XVIII). Rare collector's copy. Item now in archival sleeve to preserve and protect condition. Our photo's/scans are of the actual item being sold, not a borrowed image! ; Engraving; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 260 pages .

"The Koran, Commonly Called the Alcoran of Mahomet" provides an exceptionally rare 19th-century English translation of the Quran, the foundational text of Islam, revered as a divine revelation received by Prophet Muhammad. Composed of 114 chapters, it is a religious guide for Muslims and a pivotal work in Arabic literature, reflecting its profound impact on the language and cultural milieu.
