This is one of the finest, most beautiful, and in-depth books ever created on The Knights Templars. The heavily tooled covers are still glistening, the gold templar emblems are shiny and bright, and it's a showpiece of a book overall. Within its pages, you will find a lavish collection of etchings as well as a thorough and complete history of the Templars. It contains more than just writings on the Knights themselves. It also delves into spirituality, The Freemasons, Ancient Egypt, and the Holy Lands. Written by one of the most famous and respected Masons in history, this culmination is about as authentic to its words as you will ever find. I would snag this one before it's gone; the last one I had sold incredibly fast. It is a priceless book and a significant work of historical literature. Just for an age reference, this book was printed and bound 40 years before the start of the First World War of 1914.

The history of the Knights Templars is a remarkable story of triumphs and defeats, marked with controversies and tragedy. From their rise to their demise, Charles G. Addison captivatingly chronicles the various characters that shaped this powerful military order that reigned for almost two centuries during the Middle Ages.

Having examined scores of documents and texts and traveled to many of the ruined fortresses and castles of the order, Addison was an expert on the Templars' history. He details their plight in this volume, first published in the 19th century. Starting with the origins of the brotherhood, the foundations and ideals of the order, and their chosen symbol of the red cross, the author explains their role in protecting pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land, their feats during the Crusades, the relationships they held with various kings and church leaders, their contributions to protecting Europe from Turkish conquest and preserving Christianity in Europe and Asia, and their tragic end: stripped of their lands, tortured, and burned at the stake.

"A richly detailed, sometimes challenging work, Charles Addison's This book traces the rise and fall of this legendary religious-military organization. Addison was an official member of the Templar Inner Table when he composed his definitive study."

The book delves into the Knights Templar's origins, rise to power, involvement in the Crusades, and financial and military activities. It also discusses their downfall, including their suppression and persecution by the King of France and the subsequent dissolution of the order.

Addison provides a clear and comprehensible account of this great religious and military fraternity of knights and monks that will engross anyone interested in their history and the Middle Ages.

"THE ORIGIN OF THE ORDERS TO THE PRESENT TIME, ADAPTED TO THE AMERICAN SYSTEM BY ROBERT MACOY 33RD DEGREE.
GRAND RECORDER OF THE GRAND COMMANDERY OF NEW YORK: REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GRAND COMMANDERIES OF TENNESSEE, CALIFORNIA, AND TEXAS: AUTHOR OF CYCLOPEDIA OF FREEMASONRY."

The overall condition of this book is very good, considering it was printed almost 150 years ago. It does, however, display some of the typical aging attributes associated with a book that is this ancient. This includes shelf wear, age, and handling use to the covers, spine, hinges. The interior pages are naturally age-toned and will contain some foxing, small age spots, and normal aging. Most books of this age have either turned to dust or have been read to pieces; luckily, this one has survived, and might I say... It is an incredibly beautiful book.

Robert Macoy (October 4, 1815 – January 9, 1895) was born in Armagh, Ulster County, Ireland. He moved to the United States at the age of 4 months. He was a prominent Freemason and was instrumental in founding the Order of the Eastern Star and the Amaranth. He founded the most significant Masonic publishing, regalia, and supply house currently active, Macoy Publishing & Masonic Supply Company.

The overall condition of this book is very good based on its age. It has some average age, shelf wear, and reading use. Very lovely for this print year.

The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon (Latin: Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonici), also known as the Order of Solomon's Temple, the Knights Templar, or simply the Templars, was a Catholic military order, one of the most wealthy and popular military orders in Western Christianity. They were founded in 1119, headquartered on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and existed for nearly two centuries during the Middle Ages.

The Knights Templar were an elite fighting force of their day, highly trained, well-equipped, and highly motivated; one of the tenets of their religious order was that they were forbidden from retreating in battle unless outnumbered three to one, and even then only by order of their commander, or if the Templar flag went down. Not all Knights Templar were warriors. The mission of most of the members was one of support – to acquire resources that could be used to fund and equip the small percentage of members who were fighting on the front lines. There were three classes within the orders. The highest class was the knight. When a candidate was sworn into the order, they made the knight a monk. They wore white robes. The knights could hold no property and receive no private letters. They could not be married or betrothed and could not have any vow in any other Order. They could not have more debt than they could pay and no infirmities. The Templar priest class was similar to the modern-day military chaplain. Wearing green robes, they conducted religious services, led prayers, and were assigned record-keeping and letter-writing. They always wore gloves unless they were giving Holy Communion.

The mounted men-at-arms represented the most common class and were called "brothers." They were usually assigned two horses each and held many positions, including guard, steward, squire, or other support vocations. As the primary support staff, they wore black or brown robes and were partially garbed in chain or plate mail. The armor needed to be more complete than the knights. Because of this infrastructure, the warriors were well-trained and very well-armed. Even their horses were trained to fight in combat, fully armored. The combination of soldier and monk was also a powerful one; as to the Templar knights, martyrdom in battle was one of the most glorious ways to die.

The Templars were also shrewd tacticians, following the dream of Saint Bernard, who had declared that a small force, under the right conditions, could defeat a much larger enemy. One of the key battles in which this was demonstrated was in 1177, at the Battle of Montgisard. The famous Muslim military leader Saladin attempted to push toward Jerusalem from the south with a force of 26,000 soldiers. At Ascalon, he had pinned the forces of Jerusalem's King Baldwin IV, about 500 knights and their supporters, near the coast. Eighty Templar knights and their entourage attempted to reinforce. They met Saladin's troops at Gaza but were considered too small a force worth fighting, so Saladin turned his back on them and headed with his army toward Jerusalem.
