About This Item

New York, NY Henry Holt & Co, 1992. Hardcover First Ed USA, First Printing indicated. First Ed USA, First Printing indicated. Near Fine in Fine DJ: Book shows former owner's tasteful bookplate at front paste-down endpaper; else flawless; binding square and secure; text clean. DJ flawless; price unclipped; mylar-protected. As New. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio. 159pp. Profusely illustrated, mostly in color. Translated by Alexandra Campbell. Hardback with DJ. Most of the plentiful illustrations are in color. They are interspresed among enough printed material to give the reader a pretty good idea of who Klimt was and of his finest work during his productive years. At the book's end is a catalog of around 125 of his paintings. It contains thumbnail, black and white illustrations with brief descriptions. Following that is an orderly, year-by-year outline of the artist's life and the names of principal artworks produced each year. This work of Frodl's is among my favorites. But the color work and productiion values in this book are quite good. Gustave Klimt appears to have appreciated and enjoyed the proximity of the fairer sex, sometimes unclothed and in various positions. He most certainly liked to preserve their looks via his unique, compelling manner of illustration.
