About This Item
Israel Oriental Society, 1954. Paperback. VERY GOOD. 8vo, sewn binding, paper wraps. Fore head corner bumped, hand-written title to spine. Sound, unmarked copy. 'Abu 'Abd ar-Rahman MUhammad ibn aI-Husain as-Sulami (alAzdi an-Naysaburi) was one of the outstanding personalities of the Sufi movement in the 10th century. He was born in 941/330 (died in 1021/412) in the city of Naysabur. His family was a well-known Sufi family, the most prominent figure of which was his grandfather, Isma'iJ ibn an-Nujayd 1. It was he who taught the boy, as-Sulami, the principles af Sufi doctrine, and it seems likely that it was his influence which first drew him towards Sufism.'.
