About This Item

Harper & Row, Publishers, New York, Evanston, San Francisco, London, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. Foreword by author and index. Illustrated end pages, being the initials of Rudyard Kipling from his own X libris plate, produced multiple times. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip and gilt publisher's logo to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. In his own lifetime, and, in the decades since his death Rudyard Kipling has been reviled and criticised by literary critics, lauded by the same literary critics, falling in and out of favour, but, somehow with the magic powers of his language survives. This is the story of this survival. Softening and fading of the back strip edges with a little rubbing to the lower edges. Faint age toning of the text block edges and pages. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges with rubbing of the back strip. Some insect damage can be seen to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel. Some handling marks to the dustwrapper are present. This is the first USA edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], 7 - 344 pages,. Deckled Front Edge (rough cut).
