Late work by the Catholic novelist, essayist, and managing editor of the Catholic Encyclopedia, Conde Benoist Pallen (1858-1929). In this novel, a twentieth century king doesn't want to be king. Royalty, to him, is bondage. He believes kingship is out of date; he has a democratic nature. He seeks to escape from the coil that wraps around him and wants to give a Republic to his people.
