Hard cover, second printing January 1940, black cloth boards with silver design on front cover and silver lettering on spine, Good. Some scratches and indented spots on front and back covers. Some wrinkling on back cover. Some edgewear, especially on board corners and top/bottom of spine. Binding tight but has a little give. Pages yellowed but mostly clean except for a few pages that have some spots on the bottom. JAM-PACKED WITH AUTOGRAPHS on inside front cover, free front pages, half title page and back free pages. These include: HARRY JAMES (clipped, formerly taped, tape removed but stains remain, now glued); HENNY YOUNGMAN (clipped, glued to page) signed in red pencil: "To Jeanette All the Best Henny Youngman"; JACK ___ (illegible in pencil); MARTHA TILTON (in red pencil); RUBINOFF (in red pencil); GENE KRUPA (in black ink); TOMMY DORSEY (in pencil); JESS STACY (in pencil); FRANK SINATRA (in pencil); ANITA O'DAY (in pencil); VIDO MUSSO (in pencil); MEL POWELL (in pencil); ZIGGY ELMAN (in pencil); BUDDY RICH (in pencil); ___ ROBINSON (either Frank, Les or Ted - illegible - in pencil); COOTIE WILLIAMS (in pencil); BIG SID CATLETT (in pencil); ROY ELDRIDGE (in pencil); ARTIE SHAW (in black ink!!!); JIM MAXWELL (in pencil); HELEN FORREST (in pencil); BENNY GOODMAN (the book's author, in black ink); PHIL BRIETOFF (sp?) (in pencil); ERNIE CACERES (in black ink, clipped and glued); NICK FATOOL (in pencil, clipped and glued); FRED GUY, guitar (in pencil, clipped and glued); Sincerely ELLA FITZGERALD (in pencil, clipped and glued); and 2 illegible signatures in red pencil. Previous owner's inscription (in black ink): "This book belongs to Miss Jeanette Massey - who considers it her most prized possession - she loves swing music - loves to sing it - better than anything on the earth. This music - made famous by a guy named Benny Goodman has made the front page in American musical history and never will be forgotten." Page from Benny Goodman program with the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra at the University of Miami, dated Friday April 4th (no year) included with book. Yellow stains on back of front cover and back cover, free front page, and free back page. Darker stains on free back page. A few pages are dog eared. Original price $2 stamped on inside of back board. 265 pages. Four photo inserts have been removed and are missing. Poor condition dust jacket in four pieces, front, back and two flaps but no spine are included with book. Super-rare one of a kind book with benefits that far outweigh its flaws. One of the most impressive autograph collections of jazz greats. A collector's gem!.
