About This Item

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1897. Hardcover. Very good. An early printing. A picaresque novel, which became a short-lived musical comedy in 1979. A British author, Zangwill (1864-1926) was at the forefront of cultural Zionism during the 19th century, and was a close associate of Theodor Herzl. Inscribed by Zangwill on the front flyleaf. Octavo. Original green cloth binding, with gilt titles and pictorial black stamping. Minor crease to the front flyleaf. Some general dust staining to the top edge. The spine is darkened a bit, with a bit of wear to the corners and tips, and occasional mild soiling; otherwise about very good.
