About This Item

Jonathan Cape, 1976. 1st Edition . No Binding. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. With unclipped dust jacket very lightly rubbed to top and lower edges but free from nicks and tears. Embossed stamp to ffep and half title otherwise clean and free from marks. The story of the succession to the leadership of the Bimbo gypsy clan following the death of King Tene Bimbo who on his deathbed appointed his successor, his grandson, Stev Tene. A move which caused hostility as the younger Tene had become 'Americanised' and urged the rest the rest of the clan to do the same and enter the modern world. Above all this a fascinating account of American Gypsy life, about a group of people who go largely unnoticed throughout America, unseen by the authorities.
