London: Michael Joseph, 1960. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8" by 5.5". None. The first edition of Stan Barstow's premiere, and best known novel. With original unclipped dustwrapper. A Kind of Loving was an extremely popular work and the first of a trilogy of works by Barstow about the character Vic Brown. The trilogy follow Vic through marriage, divorce and a move from the mining town of Cressley to London. The following two parts to the trilogy are 'The Watchers on the Shore' and 'The Right True End'. With the signature 'Ranfurly' to the recto of front endpaper, the signature of Hermione, Countess of Ranfurly. Hermione Ranfurly is notably remembered for her war-time memoirs 'To War With Whittaker: The Wartime Diaries of the Countess of Ranfurly'. Barstow was an English novelist born in Yorkshire. He originally worked as a draftsman and salesman for an engineering company before turning to writing. 'A Kind of Loving' has been adapted for film, television, stage and radio. In original full cloth binding held in original unclipped dustwarpper. Externally, excellent with very minor shelfwear. A few very light marks evident of damp staining to boards. Dustwrapper is generally smart with chipping to the extremities, heavier to the head and tail of spine. Wrap is sunned also, particularly to edges with the odd handling mark. Signature of 'Ranfurly' to recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges due to paper used and clean throughout. Near Fine
